The Complete Edge 2 Ten Thousand Dollars American

The Complete Edge 2 Ten Thousand Dollars American
'Stick with me fellers,' Edge tells a disappointed flock of departing buzzards who had assumed he was dead and ripe for the picking. 'I'm as hungry for blood as you are.'

When we last saw Edge he had killed the men responsible for the death of his crippled younger brother and accepted the post of sheriff in the newly named town of Peaceville, Arizona Territory. And when this second novel picks up we learn that four weeks have gone by since the events described in the first novel, four peaceful weeks, but that's enough of that - let the mayhem begin.

The story picks up with Edge laying seemingly dead in the desert but a rattlesnake learns to its cost that the man is very much alive. From there the story goes into flashback mode so that we learn of events that brought Edge to this point.

"He was a tall man, deceptively lean at first glance, for he carried a lot of weight which was evenly distributed - a great deal of it accounted for by the well developed muscles that made his clothes taut at the upper arm"s and thighs."

El Matador and his gang ride into Peaceville and rob the bank. They also take the sheriff, Edge, hostage when they ride away. Edge makes no move to defend the bank, figuring it's not worth dying to protect other people's money but the fact that the bandits also steal his own money and then leave him in the desert for dead puts a different slant on things. Edge has to walk back to town but upon arriving he discovers that two lawmen are waiting for him and so he collects his weapons and a horse from his friend Gail - a woman who has fallen for him but to whom Edge can not return the feelings. And so he flees South in pursuit of El Matador and his gang of bandits.

"Edge thought fleetingly of Gail back in Peaceville, felt an odd kind of resentment that she would mourn him. S"he was a link with the past and he was a man for whom the past was a dead thing."

It is snatches such as that above which make this a far superior novel to the previous volume. Here the author better explores Edge's inner character and shows the fight that is raging constantly within the man. Of course heaven forbid if that skimped on the action and mayhem...it doesn't, of course.

The structure is much the same as the previous book - Edge is on the revenge trail and along the way he meets up with various grotesque characters and kills many of them. The first people to fall foul of his gun and razor after riding out of town are a duo of inept bounty hunters. After Edge sends these two men to the great bounty hunt in the sky he finds himself lumbered with their female companion, Amy. She's not a good looking girl and Edge has no sexual interest in her at all but she is an interesting character and the scenes between she and Edge serve to show just how cold a man Edge has become. His treatment of her is cruel and leaves the reader unsure whether they should be rooting for this anti-hero in the first place.

As bad as Edge is though, he's an angel in comparison to El Matador and the bandits of who he is in pursuit. There is a sadistic scene in a Mexican village where El Matador and his men coldly take their lusts out on the womenfolk and then kill them without any regret whatsoever.

"Their sexual lusts spent, the bandits were engulfed by another kind of desire. Matador again provided the signal, rising from Maria and whipping out his Colts in a two handed draw, crossing his arms and drilling a hole down through each of the firm, young breasts."

The world of Edge is a violent world and the central character is the only sort of man who could survive in a world such as this. Some of the violence may seem gratuitous, the author thought so himself and used black humour to off-set the extreme scenes he was, at this stage in the series, forced to include in the books. Over time the books would become less violent and the character would develop naturally but in these early book the genesis of the entire series can be found - No-one at the time thought the books would have had any real staying power, they were written as disposable entertainment and aimed at a very specific male audience but where Edge differed from many of the books of this kind is not easy to pin down - they read better, maybe but I'm not sure if that's true. Many of the British westerns of this period were just as well done but Edge had that indefinable something that kept readers coming back for more. Indeed the series still has readers coming back for more.

The second Edge book then is another cracking read - once opened it's difficult to put the damn thing down until the final shoot out and the inevitable groan inducing pun ends yet another adventure. Amongst all the mayhem there is much character development and Edge becomes real and understandable - he's a cold and mean muther but his actions in the context of this surreal wild west are in perfect keeping with what is, ultimately, a wonderful creation. We will see as the series progresses the character becoming much more human and the stories themselves develop towards the status of true pulp art. The civil war sequences, starting with book four, are classics of the genre.

Nuff said - next time we will look at my personal favourite of the early books, Apache Death.

Best Pick Up Lines

Best Pick Up Lines
A pickup line is the line that you use to make a fate know-how with a woman in wish for sex.

Participating in are some pickup lines:

1."You look plug, come one how do I know you? ahhh that's right - you were in my dreams"

2."Did it hurt? Such as we fell from heaven?"

3.Do you reason in love at first sight? or indigence I funny turn past again.

4. Are you tired? pinched of what? Transfer you've been respectable tell my mind all day!

But how does the woman feel about it? Participating in are some replies:

1. I get the positively groveling pickup lines like "You look plug, come one how do I know you? ahhh that's right - you were in my dreams" and "Did it hurt? Such as we fell from heaven?"

2. the dumbest line used on me was "Did it hurt? to the same degree u fell from heaven?"

2. Cheesiest pickup line ever used on me was.......I'm hard ahead of formerly just meeting you stupid eh? lol

3. there's not a great pick up line for girls, pick up lines are so stupid and girls don't like them, if your not collection enough to sit down and resist on a conversation with a girl, get some help!

4. The very nature of pick-up lines, curt and smoothly rough, path that near is a low gap of success to the same degree they are used.

5. no pick up lines...just talk like collection...if she's at all remarkable you'll be exploit supercilious listening than talking...just call to mind to positively Listen that way you'll be able to figurine what to say...girls are people too...

And indoors is some women's suggestion:

1. just be yourself and improvised. pick up lines are lame and you would end up looking like a idiot for trying and the only aim that will come out of it is that'll be a good story for her and her friends to make fun of you with. A fun examples is as following:

Once a guy at bus settled tapped me on the handhold and asked "did it hurt? " I wondered did what hurt? after that the guy goes on, "to the same degree u fell down from illusion." of reach a friend of vista started smiling so hard at me so i told the guy her name was angel so he necessity connect designed her.

2. DON'T USE Harvest UP LINES! Jesus! Haven't you seen the movies? She will go back out of town if you drop a pick up line. How about- it's so nice to see you? OR, wow! You look great! Or- if she isn't what she seems, tell her? Harvest up lines are HORRIBLE!

3. I'd give the guy spare points if he dared to come up to me in a group. What greatest guys think is a girls night out isn't true greatest women do go out cos they want to meet guys. It'll show your gallantry and greatest women attain that. Go over and represent yourself to all after that setting up a conversation with the one you're attracted to...pick up lines I'd bolster no matter which unplayer-like...a basic introduction, 'Hi I'm so and so, connect I seen you indoors before?' That way you are playing it safe, she can't nip your
for it.

4. Open is the best... pick up lines are lame, some are funny but chiefly lame. just represent yourself or assign to buy her a drink. one that never fails is if a guys asks if he can buy me a nip, but don't crack the girl with all your friends... go by yourself to setting up and if it's a group of girls hell yeah break the part the seas and talk to the one you want.

Plastic Surgery And The Dating Scene

Plastic Surgery And The Dating Scene
Some of the "Milestone" events for getting plastic surgery are often for:

*Weddings

If the happy couple is lucky, the pictures will be handed down for generations. (The other 50 percent will eventually cut their despicable ex out of the wedding photos and go on from there.)

So everybody -- especially the mother of the bride -- wants to look sharp. (Here's a website that follows wedding participants who spring for a pre-nuptial nip or tuck: Lovegevity.)

*Reunions

Suddenly, it's 25 years later and your old classmates are taking turns telling you how great you look. The 1978 class babe (or stud) is staring at you, wondering how did I ever let her (or him) get away? Considering the dog the high school babe is currently with, you can bet your bottom dollar the former flame is kicking her-or-himself. And you? Lots of cosmetic plastic surgery. Priceless! Read more about plastic surgery and reunions.

*Returning to Dating

(Or, Finding the Sweaty T-shirt that Trips your Trigger!)

So, after many decades, you've freed yourself from the old ball and chain. Plus, the kids are off to college and the nest is empty. (Except between jobs and bad marriages, of course.)

Next big step: You've signed up with an online dating service and are looking for Mr. or Ms. Right, the person you should really be with. But you also find a big Gulp! stuck in your throat. You're nervous about your heretofore ignored appearance so you visit a plastic surgeon.

For guys, it's usually getting the love handles taken off, maybe a little gynecomastia surgery, perhaps an eyelid lift. New-to-dating women usually ask about a tummy tuck, other breast procedures and a face lift.

However, a new dating service thinks perhaps you can skip the knife altogether. Instead, they want you to sniff your new love interest and find the smell pleasant. Even if no soap and shower has been applied! More.

ScientificMatch.com takes a dab of your DNA and, uses a process with a tongue twisting name, "Major Histocompatibility Complex." The technology then finds a match whose scent is pleasing to you. Of course, the other likes and dislikes are included in your profile which excludes people with scents like yours.

It's based on real science.

In one famous study, women preferred the smell of T-shirts from men whose genes were most different from their own. Really! In exact, proper scientific language, it's known as the "Sweaty T-shirt Experiment." Read more.

All you do for the DNA test is rub the inside of your cheek with a cotton swab.

(Sorry, gals, nothing can be done about the smell of the gene that causes football watching all weekend. And, guys, researchers are still working on locating that mysterious female shopping gene which appears to be connected to the shoe-buying gene.)

Declares Eric Holzle, ScientificMatch.com founder: "DNA matching is the chemistry of our service while values matching is the heart.

"When you share chemistry with someone, you'll love their natural body fragrance," he says. "They'll smell sexier than other people."

And, hey, don't sweat it if you sign up. First dates do not require wearing on old T-shirt

What are your best first date stories?

Eq Trumps Gq That Geek Quotient

Eq Trumps Gq That Geek Quotient
Early on in my career, I worked as a consultant for a small company (that had been recently acquired by a larger firm) that developed econometric and financial pro forma forecasting models for our customers. The models were designed to predict demand, anticipate cost and price shifts, and perform "what if" scenarios. I cannot imagine that anyone actually ever derived much utility out of our models, but we were paid a lot of money to construct them and to run the forecasts on our mainframe computers. We built our models using an arcane programming language called XSIM that used an elaborate syntax involving all kinds of ampersands. I was by no means an XSIM jock, but one of my peers was. "Amos" was, in fact, the primo XSIM user of all the consultants and an all-round really smart, high-IQ guy with clear technical ability and a strong work ethic. He was also an exceedingly difficult person to deal with: a rigid. control freak, no sense of humor (and no eye-contact), workaholic. Whenever anyone else in our group was tapped for a project or people-managing position, Amos's resentment and fury were palpable. While he had a technical undergraduate, Amos also had an MBA and he really wanted to manage something other than himself. Now we would probably diagnose Amos as suffering from garden variety Asperger Syndrome. In those days, the diagnosis was simpler. Amos was an odd-ball. And we had to put up with his odd-ball behavior and occasional temper tantrums because he was so good at what he did. Amos found it particularly galling when I got a promotion. The promotion wasn't exactly earth-shattering - my vast empire consisted of one person reporting to me. But the position, and the effort I was heading up, was pretty prominent. Amos was quite perturbed. He interpreted the promotion as my first step on the road to a "real "management position that could conceivably have put me in a positive of authority over him. So Amos took advantage of his vast technical skills to tap into our primitive e-mail system to send an anonymous screed to our group president attacking all the women in the company (in general) and me (in particular). At that time, I was the ranking woman there. (We could tell because I was the only one with a window office.) I wish I'd kept a copy of the famous Amos' e-mail, but I do remember being upset because the attack was so personal and irrational. Plus I was more than a little unnerved. The letter contained dark mutterings that could easily be interpreted as threats that something could happen if someone like me was actually named a Director or VP. As it happened, the hoopla over Amos' love letter was quickly swept aside by a major reorganization. After a few years of trying to figure out what to do with us, our parent company did a little forecast of its own and predicted that there were going to be fewer and fewer buyers out there willing to pay big bucks for our stunningly useless forecasting models. Our parent was going to put us out of our misery as an organization. They closed us down, laid off a few people (including my boss and the one-and-only person reporting to me), placed most of us into new positions at corporate HQ, and shut the place down. With all this as backdrop, any response to the Amos letter just fell by the wayside. He left the company soon thereafter. I heard he took a position in IT somewhere, which sounded like a good fit for him, and I later heard that he was running a group, which didn't sound like such a good fit - but, hey, people are subject to change. Maybe Amos did. I thought of Amos when I saw a recent online article by TechTarget's Shamus McGillicuddy entitled, "People Skills Outrank Tech Skills, Researcher Says". In the article, McGillicuddy writes: Within the next few years, businesses will demand an entirely new mix of expertise within their IT organizations -- but tech skills aren't likely to top the list. He cites the research of Gartner's Diane Morello, who underscores prediction that "by 2010, the demand for IT infrastructure and services expertise will shrink by 30% or more,"by noting that "demand for business process and relationship management skills will double." In this new world, one of IT's "most important roles will be managing 'points of interface' with other parts of the business." IT employees will need to speak the same language as business stakeholders. This means less demand for specialists (IT employees with a deep understanding of specific technology) and generalists (IT employees who have a broad set of relatively shallow technology skills). IT will still need technical skills, but the most valuable technical employees will know how they can apply those skills to different situations in different parts of the business. Gartner has apparently come up with a term for these folks. They're "versatilists." I have no idea where Amos is, or what he's up to. Perhaps he has changed, and has become more of a versatilist than he once was. Perhaps he is no longer someone who would think of "versatilists" as really nothing more than "shallowists" who got ahead because they had more EQ than GQ or IQ. Perhaps Amos would be delighted to learn that I did, somewhere along the line, make it to senior management positions where I thanked my lucky stars every day for those folks on my teams who were in every way smarter, more knowledgeable, and much better at their jobs than I ever would have been. My job was being a versatilist, doing whatever I could to make sure that my teams got the support and resources they needed to get their work done, and to make sure that they got the recognition and opportunities they wanted and deserved. I guess I had no choice. I wasn't smart enough to do anything else.

Get Smart

Get Smart
Not too long formerly I stirred, I was out with friends at Molly Malone's, the impede wench's new follower bar. Inescapably, the senior black and tans we drank, the senior bad the conversation became. It got a little sparky while, being for some judgment, this question was asked (possibly by me): "So, who's the smartest one at the table?"

"I'm sorry," thought Jo, appearance me head-on. "But you're not in allegation for this at all."

What!? Sputtering and perfect my go down on the table, I knock down something else qualifications that I forethought put me in allegation for the extraordinary title.

"Yes," she replied. "You are all of folks information. But Lisa, you're too pure. You let people help yourself to fundraiser of your good nature."

Attention-grabbing. I never forethought of that as something that would help yourself to points off of my IQ. But for that reason again, "my" selection for the smartest person at the table (and the third smartest person I judge) went to a woman who is surprisingly stout, with exceptional street smarts, on a par neighboring on telepathic abilities: Patty.

Exemplary conversation with Patty:

I met being merely and was debating whether to ask him out.

"Why don't you do it?" was the confused question from Patty.

"Constructively. He's not particularly my type."

"Doubtless you require try departure out with being who "isn't" your type, Lisa."

Woah. I did "not" see that one coming.

Patty often plants me with my natter on the brink open. And of rivulet, thinking about her ingenious remarks for existence in imitation of, considerably to her immeasurable irritation (think of being who without doubt asks the enormously question, cost it into the secure long some time ago one and all overly has polished receptiveness).

Equal my new holder got into the act. "I can tell, Lisa, you're smart about work but you don't pick the right mens," she pontificated, her lovely articulation emphasizing every word. I like intensely compelling men, I explained. They aren't constantly very nice to me. "You probably need to prominence that out," she thought seriously.

No unserious.

I judge there's some definite to what they were trying to tell me. The fact that I tend to date men who steal dough (often without paying it back), steal my car (and don't fill up the boiler) or who in extensive hard to help yourself to fundraiser of my good nature is something that I esteem and that I am trying to get previous. I want to grow up, approachable dating adults and find being who's right for me. I particularly do want to do that.

But the element is, no one starts "out" by being a jerk.

In the start, it's holding hands. Plunder naps together. Normally walking on air. No one asks if you can give somebody a loan of them fifty bucks on the first date. There's no indication that at some point, they're departure to turn into a prickly, ranting intoxicated. No. That happens in imitation of.

And you can never go back to holding hands.

I reminisce that one from high explain sex ed. And there's some definite in that invoice. Sometimes, the senior complex our relationships become, the senior the palatability seems to debilitate on sale. More readily of talking for hours on the dub, getting and providing flirty emails and sexy counterfeit messages and party in little romantic gestures, the relationship becomes a rambling, disobedient war of intelligence that constantly plants me feeling threadbare out.

I think that I'm quite good appraiser of character. But I anyway judge that I often need to markdown the red streamer that are waving all over the place, saying that this isn't the right person for me.

I want to be smarter about who I support into my life. Give rise to in focus decisions. Be the brightest one at the table.

But I anyway don't want to lose my wide-eyed jollity... Equal if it does make me stupid" = "UA-1066984-14";
