There are different types of hypnotism. Covert hypnosis, otherwise known as conversational hypnosis, is one type. It is the use of words and body language or gestures, to hypnotize an individual without their knowledge. Some people also know this type of hypnotism as subliminal suggestion, or simply the power of suggestion. While many people consider this hypnotism as a type of brainwashing, the truth is that it is just a way of getting into the subconscious mind and making suggestions that work to change what a person thinks or does.

Conversational hypnotism is used by many different kinds of people. Marketing and sales professionals use this hypnotism to provide suggestions to potential customers in their advertisements and commercials. It can be compared to subliminal messaging, but more like suggestion instead of brainwashing. This hypnotism is particularly helpful in clinical applications for therapy sessions that help people with psychological problems, chronic pain, and distress.

Conversational hypnotism generally occurs during an otherwise regular conversation. The person performing the hypnotism has the ability to make subtle suggestions. They are generally used to implant thoughts and desires into the subconscious mind of the individual being hypnotized. These implanted suggestions can help change decisions about things.

Conversational hypnotism has three steps involved. The hypnotizer must first build a rapport and gain the trust and confidence of the individual through finding common ground, asking various questions, and talking about things that foster comfort. After a rapport is built, a hypnotizer can ask different questions that open the subconscious through forcing him or her to use their imagination. Once these steps are completed, hypnotizers make the desired suggestions to gain influence.

This hypnotism has become known for being tricks and part of show acts. It was not always that way. Conversational hypnotism has been used for many years as a means of therapy. For example, in psychotherapy it can be used to help suggest stories that allow the patient to gain perspective in a situation or cope with troubles.

It is also helpful when dealing with other problems. Many therapists are able to use the power of suggestion to help people who have uncontrollable behaviors that are dangerous to their health. Problems such as overeating or other eating disorders, smoking, substance abuse, and cutting may be stopped with regular hypnotherapy sessions.

There are several ways that conversational hypnotism can be harmful to people. If criminals, for example, are able to learn how to hypnotize in this manner, they gain the ability to manipulate people to do what they want and have no idea why they decided to do such things. Throughout history, people have been able to hypnotize individuals for their own gains, both immoral and illegal.

As with any type of treatment or hypnosis, it is always possible for someone to figure out how to misuse the ability and wreak havoc. Even though there are many benefits that exist when you learn the art of covert hypnosis, it is important to pay attention to what people are saying to you, or how you present things to people. The mind is a complicated thing and not one that should be used for entertainment.

Hypnosis And Self Hypnosis Part 1
This is the blog first of two parts where I am going to be talking about hypnosis and self hypnosis. By the end of this blog you will know more about what Hypnosis is, why it can be so helpful and also gain a practical understanding of how to enjoy the benefits of self hypnosis. In part two I will discuss how you can use self hypnosis to improve specific areas of your life.

SO WHAT EXACTLY IS HYPNOSIS?

Well the common explanation is that it is an altered state of consciousness, which implies that it is a conscious state of awareness. It can also be called a trance state too. Basically, in most situations, it means that we are still very much aware that we are conscious and awake, yet it is altered from our usual awake state. The reason it is altered is because our attention is focused either internally or externally. The degree of how much it is altered is down to both our level of focus and our own perception of the experience we have. If we are guided in the right way by an experienced hypnotherapist it is possible to go into a very deep trance state, yet we are still conscious and we are still making the choice to go to that deep state.

We go in and out of this altered state far more often than we realise too; whenever we have our attention specifically focused on something will mean we are experiencing a trance state to some degree. Daydreaming, being engrossed in a book, music or TV programme and the state we are in upon waking or just before we fall asleep, are probably the most common. Meditation is the closest to hypnosis, with the only difference being that when meditating we are not looking to achieve anything other than a quieting of the mind. Hypnosis is different because even though the feeling is the same we usually want to have a particular goal or purpose in mind, which is where Hypnotherapy comes in.

AND WHY IS HYPNOSIS SO HELPFUL?

When we are in the trance state our ability to learn and integrate these learnings is far greater than in a fully awake state. Yet the misconception is that you need to be in a deep trance state to affect this change, when in fact learning to control and access a light trance is just as beneficial, and in fact necessary if you are doing self hypnosis as you need to be alert enough to guide yourself. Self hypnosis is a really easy and lovely way to relax and something that absolutely anyone can benefit from and enjoy with a little practice.

HOW DO YOU 'DO' SELF HYPNOSIS THEN?

As you will undoubtedly realise the way we interpret our reality is by using all our senses. It is something we do every single waking moment and quite unconsciously most of the time. The visual sense is the most powerful yet all the other senses are busy at work in the background.

Yet when we close our eyes and start to remember a good experience from our past and how it felt then our kinesthetic sense (inner feeling of body and emotion) becomes far more apparent. If we then try and focus on using our sight in our minds eye before running through the other main senses of touch, hearing, smell and taste, imagining we are back there experiencing that good memory, it then becomes much more vivid and we can also get a better feel for which senses are easier to access. For instance some people have a very vivid ability to bring pictures and colours into their mind whilst for others sounds are easier to recreate.

Once you can easily go in and out of your predominant senses, then try and focus on the ones you find harder to access as not only are you developing your acuteness to those senses but because they are harder for you to access you naturally go into a deeper state of trance. Eventually you should be able to switch and overlap between each of your senses with relative ease. In addition to using a memory or a made up place you can also do this sensory overlapping by focusing your attention on the space you are sitting in; the sounds around you, the feelings in different parts of your body and then imagining what it would be like to walk around the room you are sitting in and beyond, using your sense of touch, sight and smell.all in your mind. And of course by doing this you are developing your ability to go in and out of a state of self hypnosis!

Practicing this will mean it will become easier to slip into this wonderful state very easily. For some it will still be quite a light state of trance whilst for others it might be deeper, yet you will still feel fully in control and aware of the choices you are making. An important point to mention is that it really needs to be done sitting rather than lying as otherwise you may very well fall asleep. Certainly a good thing if that is what you want, however you won't really get adept at self hypnosis.

Now for some, enjoying this journey into trance is enough as it can be deeply restful and restorative, like meditation. However as mentioned above if you want to start using the state of hypnosis to make some changes in your life, you will need to be a bit more targeted. To do that it makes sense to become more familiar with accessing your trance state, which means regular practice for at least 5-10 minutes, ideally once a day.

One of the first things that people notice about Underground Hypnosis is that the program is based on a concept that is referred to as Black Ops. This leads many people, at first glance, to think that the basis for Underground Hypnosis is something that is sinister, otherworldly, or even a scam.

A quick review of the material proves that is not the case. While the name may attract a lot of people who think that the purpose of hypnosis is a tool to force people into doing something that the individual does not want to do, the truth is that the program is about quite a different approach.

Taylor Starr has designed a series of sessions that begin with the basics and progress all the way through to using hypnosis as a steady tool to prevent manipulation from other sources. While providing some valuable insight on the way that unscrupulous persons use covert control, the material takes it one step further and turns the situation around.

Instead of being manipulated by others, the application of Black Ops makes it possible to resist those manipulations and also alter the course of the interaction. This type of application makes it possible to exert influence that can improve relationships, create significant opportunities in the business world and in general improve the quality of life.

A large part of Black Ops involves getting inside your own brain and learning what you are capable of accomplishing. During this process of self-realization, the student is expected to get a handle on what type of goals the individual possesses. Black Ops identifies strengths that can be applied to the task of achieving those goals, and understanding how to use verbal and non-verbal communications that result in the willing involvement of other people in the attainment of those goals.

Part Four of the series is entitled "Black Ops Truth Extractor." The session involves learning to pick up on verbiage that helps the listener to know how true the remarks of the speaker happen to be. Along with identifying indicators that something is not quite on the level, the session also gets into some exercises and verbal interaction that can defuse the dishonesty and prompt the speaker to begin revealing truths about the subject of discussion. If nothing else is gained from purchasing this program, the information contained in this one session is worth the purchase price.

Also of a great deal of use is the section on common control techniques. As with Part Four, the session entitled "The Roots of Covert Control - The Majors" is presented in such a way that it is hard to not begin nodding in agreement while reading the text. Some of the indicators that are identified are so common that many people simply overlook them, out of familiarity. However, the session does not leave it at that. Instead, techniques that can take those triggers and use them to redirect the conversation and the thought process so that the flow of events is more favorable.

A review of the Underground Hypnosis course will quickly demonstrate that the presentation draws heavily from a number of different sources. However, there is not any other place to get all this information in one place. To the credit of the author, the material includes several different approaches but manages to remain coherent throughout all the seven main sessions or parts.

The information is arranged in a manner that allows easy review of earlier sessions when ideas are referred to later in the text. This ease of review is one of the little things about this course that help to make it much more informative and user friendly than many similar courses that are online today.

While some of the terminology and the presentation are a little esoteric, the information contained within Taylor Starr's materials is factual and definitely worth the cost.

Last week, the NewsStraits Times published an article about "gullible" victimes who fall prey to some out for quick money.

First of all, it is the victim's belief that makes them not seeing the obvious, but believe those that are out to harm them. When you believe it, you will see it. As simple as that. If you believe the world is bad, you will see the bad things all around you. If you believe the world is good, you start to see the things that are positive and bright side of life. It is, of course not easy to change a lifelong belief just by changing the thought alone. That means those people that had sex with bomohs to get rid of evil spirits really believed in it, despite everything that was told. Hey - Bill Gates had to see the importance of the Internet before he embarked on it.

Once upon a time, there were people that believed the world is flat and that, if you go out too far, you can fall down from the plate. Remember, that may be a while ago, you still believed in Santa Claus (sorry for those that still believe it: he doesn't exist. There were resembling characters a long time ago, so!).

Anyway - let's go back to the bomohs. A common belief might be that these victims were hypnotised. Not true.

It is bad enough that these people have been cheated, really. It is a lesson hard learnt and I hope they got the lesson. But, whatever you believe, it is not hypnosis.

Although most of us associate hypnosis with the client sitting in a comfortable chair with the hypnosis therapist standing or sitting giving suggestive commands. There are actually lots of self hypnosis techniques that you can learn and apply on yourself, and this way gain full control of your mind. To put it another way these techniques will help you become your own mind manager. Below follows a description of the core of these techniques which you can alter and adjust to fit your needs. This technique pretty much consist of the same core method that the hypnosis therapists are using on their clients. Be aware though, that you should be very careful about which statements you program into your sub-conscious mind. So take your time and select these statements very carefully.The first thing you have to decide is the purpose for the self hypnosis: What are you really trying to find out or accomplish? As soon as you have defined your goal with the self hypnosis session, you must keep to this goal. Never select more than one goal at a time and resist the temptation of solving all your problems in one batch. You simply will not be able to do that but instead create even more problems by trying that. So how should the statements or suggestions that youre going to implant into your sub-conscious mind be?They must be positive and represent something good. Never use suggestions like "Im going to learn to bungee-jump no matter how scared I am". This will only make you even more scared. So cleanse out all negative words when you formulate your suggestions and substitute them with positive words like "I really look forward to bungee-jump and thus have the fantastic feeling of freedom when I fly in the air."The suggestions you formulate must be easy to remember. Lets say you want to communicate better with other people, then for example you can make a suggestion like, "I am a damn good communicator." Now, write it down and then add all the reasons why you want to reach this goal plus what you expect will happen when you reach it. Each time you repeat the statement, visualize that you succeed to strengthen the message in your sub-conscious mind. Its also important that the suggestions you make are short, direct and specific like "I will only eat healthy food".When you perform your self hypnosis sessions make sure you are not disturbed. Disconnect the phone, lock the doors and make yourself comfortable. You might lay on a bed or sit on a chair with straight back.

Focus your attention on a point slightly above your eye levelTake a few deep breaths while you repeat the word "relax" for yourselfWhen you breath out imagine that youre getting rid of all the bad air that have caused all the trouble inside you and that you substitute it with the fresh air you breath inClose your eyes and try to focus on a few (3 to 5) sounds you can hear like water running in the pipeline, the wind that blows outside, the rain tapping on the roof etc. Also be aware of what you feel for the moment like the temperature of your skin, the weight of your body against the chair or bed etc. Start the descent to your subconscious mind by imagining that you are walking down a ten step spiral staircase to a beautiful garden which awaits at the end of your descent. For each step you take you have to pass layers of clouds and you feel more and more relaxed and all your worries are gradually leaving you. When you dismount the last step, you put your foot on a green lawn which have a glow on it from the rays of the sun. You should now be sufficiently relaxed to start the repetition of your suggestions or statements to your subconscious mind. Repeat each suggestion three times with a short break in between. When youre finished with your suggestions, imagine that you slowly climb back to the top of the staircase. Now the self hypnotic session is over and you are back in your ordinary state of mind.

Try it out. Every time she gets up to speak, she replays this experience in her head, puts herself back in that trance and becomes anxious. Perhaps you don't remember an incident from your past that triggers your anxiety. It doesn't matter. The important thing to know is that something happened and you made it mean "I'm not good enough" or "I'll never get it right" or "This is hard." So self-hypnosis is simple. Here are the steps to take to overcome your anxiety: 1. Close your eyes and, as you breath in and out, say the word "relax" to yourself." 2. Imagine a situation in which you're anxious like taking a test or giving a speech. See yourself doing that activity. Be descriptive without adding any emotion or interpretation. For example, if you see yourself about to give a speech, simply see yourself standing in front of people. Visualize yourself, the room and the people in the audience. 3. Now say to yourself something like, " I'm powerful and dynamic. Public speaking is easy and effortless. I'm joyful when I speak to an audience." Keep repeating that phrase over and over. Do this for at least 5 minutes. 4. Open your eyes slowly and gently and return to wakefulness. The key is to repeat that word or phrase over and over. That's how you self hypnotized yourself into being anxious in the first place. You've hypnotized yourself so thoroughly that you no longer even notice that you're hypnotized. In a sense, you've hypnotized yourself through practice, practice and more practice. So it will take repeated practice of replacing your negative self talk with positive talk. In a sense, you'll be hypnotizing yourself from one hypnotic trance that produces anxiety to another hypnotic trance that serves you. But you must keep practicing. In so doing, you're creating new connections in your brain that will produce new thoughts and feelings. I've been a hypnotherapist since 1997. My fascination with hypnosis began when I attended a 3-hour lecture on a Sunday evening at a YMCA. There were about 100 people in attendance. The speaker did a relaxation exercise and concluded with the suggestion that "You will be amazed by how well this week goes for you." I forgot the suggestion until Wednesday of that week when I caught myself marveling at how well the week had gone. Projects that I had been struggling to complete were finished easily. So I met this guy...I know I can't say that I know him all that well yet, but we have been talking non-stop for 2 weeks now. We have been on two dates, and both dates he kissed me goodbye.

It's true that rejection sucks. It's also true that you can avoid rejection entirely by not approaching at all. You will be watching other men get with the women you like, but you will have protected your ego against failure. You can't lose if you don't play.

But who the heck plays the dating game "not to lose?"

If you approach, you are going to get rejected. Nick Hoss was voted the #1 pick up artist in the world last year. He's picked up more Playboy girls, models, and cheerleaders than I can count. And he gets rejected plenty. Not every woman is going to be in the mood to flirt right now, and not every woman who is open to flirting will be attracted to you.

Trying to avoid rejection while attracting women is like trying to avoid traffic while driving to Disneyland. It's impossible. It's the cost of doing business. Sure, avoid it as much as you can, but a little traffic is worth getting to your destination. Just like how a few rejections are worth finding amazing, beautiful, women who are thrilled to be with you.

I have another secret to share with you: just like rejection is inevitable, so is success.

Success is inevitable? Yes, it is - if you know what you're doing, have a good coach to help you, and you stick with it. Do you tend to be more comfortable with less attractive women? ("6s" and "7s" as opposed to "9s" and "10s".) Do you have fights and conflict with women that you later regret?

If you answered yes to either, you might have a fear of success. There's a part of your subconscious mind that is telling you that you're not worthy. Now ask yourself one more question:

How many "9s" and "10s" have you approached (sober) in the last month?

Who you approach is a huge signaling effect for a woman. Women don't have time to get to know every possible man who crosses their path. So, they take shortcuts. Part of female psychology involves using your own psychology against you.

If you don't approach hot women, you're telling her that you don't think you're worthy of hot women. In which case, who is she to disagree? There are millions of men out there who do think they are worthy. May as well give them a chance first...

It's the same thing with confident body language. And I didn't want to be that person - alone or settling, always wondering what could have been, and jealous of other men who did change and enjoyed their new life.

That was the kick in the pants I needed. Maybe it's yours too. Do this exercise:

1) Think for 5 minutes about what your life will be like in 5, 10, 20 years if you don't change anything. Then write it down as descriptively as possible.

2) Think for another 5 minutes about how you want your life to look like in 5, 10, 20 years. Then write down the changes you'll need to make to get there - and how you're going to make those changes.

I like this exercise because it's not me telling you what you need to do to get some success that I define for you. It's you telling yourself what you need to do to get what you want.

You are in charge of your life. If you don't set a direction, you'll drift to wherever you end up. There's a great quote that "most people spend more time and care planning their vacations than they spend planning their life." That's very true, and very unfortunate. To paraphrase Stephen Covey, if you don't know where you're going, or what it will look like when you get there, your odds of success are very small.

Imagine the ideal you and the ideal scenario. As long as it's realistic, hold on to that image and make it happen. If your prioritize your schedule and schedule your priorities, there's almost no limit to what you can do. But YOU have to make it happen. I've thrown a couple of cliches into this article, so why not finish with one last one. I know this is hard. But every journey begins with a single step. Take that first step - in whatever direction it is you want to go, even if it has nothing to do with dating or with Love Systems - today.

After learning that many people see writing, speech or ideas as less valuable or interesting if they come from a woman and not a man; and after realizing that I am biased in that way myself; I have been trying to catch myself doing this. While watching the excellent documentary The Art of the Steal, I realized that I was giving many of the men extra points just for being male; whereas I was discounting what a particular female judge was saying, because she was female with a southern-type high voice. When I thought about it, I realized that I thought what this woman was making among the most valuable contributions to the debate that any interviewee had made. I saw that if she were male, I would be thinking, "Now this person, this one is really smart and knows what he is talking about." All in all, I see that when evaluating what someone is saying, I subconsciously tend to give people extra points for being male (or Ivy-educated or white) and I tend to take off points for being female. The next step was realizing that people inevitably do this to me. Hell, even I do this to me (take off points for being female).This discounting of women is not some theoretical issue. It affects me. And that makes me mad. I might have less opportunity to be a "thinker," less ability to affect the world, less success spreading my ideas, simply because people don't expect a woman to The older I get, the more I become aware of sexism. I used to not know it existed; then I thought it was over and had been conquered; but now I am starting to see that sexism has and likely will continue to affect my life in a very deep way (and this motivates me to fight it, and to fight to have a good life and to do what I aim to do despite sexism--a la David Brooks' chip-on-the-shoulder school of success). How can I "skirt" sexism (pun intended!) ?-Sometimes imagining I'm a man (for purposes of status and importance of my ideas) is a start. (I notice that if I imagine I'm a man, I suddenly feel less depressed and more powerful. When people talk about being socialized into gender roles, we don't just learn the rules for our own gender. We learn some of the rules of other genders too. So I think many of us could 'act' the part of other genders in our heads. I wonder what men feel like when they imagine being female. I bet it's similar to how I feel if I imagine being a minority.)-Ezine articles gave me the idea of writing with a pen name. I might try it out. I want to try being male on facebook for a week or two, just to see if I take my ideas more seriously or to see how other people respond (and if they notice a difference in how they think of me). -Can you all who read this regularly try out the thought experiment of imagining that I'm actually a man and not a woman?
