Participants taking part in an activity related to NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming)Sometimes, being in classes or simply listening to a presentation could be a bore. Find yourself dragging your feet to classes most of the time?Well, there are ways where lecturers and facilitators or even students could improve that particular problem while doing a presentation or lecture. In that way, listeners could lengthen their attention span without falling asleep or divert their attention somewhere else. How?A great effort and initiative was taken by the Teaching and Learning Centre where they held a colloquium so that new methods and practices could be shared among participants. 3 great presenters shared their methods on "Teaching ">Held at KDU UC for the first time on 15th July 2011, Damansara Jaya Campus, participants are already looking forward to the next session!MR. ALWYN LAU (Manager, Teaching and Learning Centre), spearheading the event.DR. TAN HUI LENG (Deputy Vice Chancellor), was also there to join the event. She also added in that "Teaching and Learning is really, a process. I am very happy to welcome students and lecturers who are participating today"."The first speaker was MR. TAN CHIN IKE (Academic Department Head, School of Computing, Communication and Media Studies) on his proposed method of Gamification.WHAT IS GAMIFICATION?Gamification is about motivation and engagement. It is about finding the same formula that makes games so compelling, addictive, and fun. "We have seen technology growing. The growth of technology includes money, communication and power. Our reliance on technology have grown more in the past 20 years. We use it for communication, entertainment, and keeping up with friends. Research says the proportion of women aged 18-34 who check their Facebook when they first wake up, even before going to the bathroom. We are facing a crisis, an overload of entertainment. However, our education system is still the same. So, the question is, how do we join knowledge and fun together? The basic characteristics in games are; Goal, Challenge and Interaction. We should make test and assignments more rewarding. We need to give the young people motivation to engage them. In gaming term, it is like levelling up". "His conclusion, we need to engage our students. Quality education is equivalent to entertainment experience or the other way around. We need to make education fun because if learning is fun, people would want to continue learning. The second speaker to take on stage was MR. RICHARD CHUA (Acting Programme Leader, KDU Degree Communications). I am very known to talk a lot. I do not believe the things that I see, because the things that I see, constantly changes. All of us teach with honestly, sincerity and compassion. However, what matters most is, the relationship between the students and lecturers and how you do it. Students have to accept you for who you are as a whole and not being someone you are not because they can see it. Creativity is not new, imagination is not to wait for inspiration, acting is not to act"."Mr. Richard is a very energetic speaker and speaks with confidence thus, keeping the audience awake. The last but not least who presented was, MR. LEONG KUAN YEW (Tutor, Computing Department) on his topic of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming)". He is one of the few that has a certification in NLP."NLP helps achieve success more easily thus, overcoming phobia. There are 4 doors to unconscious mind which is, remember the past, imagine the future, imagine your favourite role model, and to remember a simple example"."PROF. DR. TEOH KOK SOO (Vice Chancellor) did a last speech before the event ended.
