http://www3.niu.edu/comm/gunkel/braz/types.htmlhttp://www.articlesbase.com/dating-articles/5-types-of-openers-women-want-you-to-use-209995.htmlAn article on the Northern Illinois university website showed the 3 kinds of pickup-lines which I would better call OPENERS.I TOOK THE LIBERTY OF ADDING SOME OF MY OWN IDEAS BELOW THEIR EXAMPLESRESEARCHING PICK-UP LINES ON THE INTERNET Communication scholars have found three types of face-to-face pick-up lines: * Direct * Innocuous * Cute/FlippantDIRECT: Direct pick-up lines are straight forward attempts to introduces oneself. Direct pick-up lines leave the user the most vulnerable to rejection. Unlike the other approaches, the direct approach leaves no room for denying that the user was in fact trying to pick someone up. Males are more likely to use this approach than females (Cunningham, 1989).Example: HI, MY NAME IS MATT. I SAW YOU FROM ACROSS THE BAR AND WANTED TO COME INTRODUCE MYSELF. * Hi, do you have a name? * Hi, I think your absolutely gorgeous and I'd really like to get to know you better * Hi, you caught my eye and I just had to say hiINNOCUOUS: Innocuous pick-up lines enable the user to appear as if he or she is doing something else. Instead of directly introducing oneself, the pickup line user can hide behind a request for a lighter or the time. This indirect approach allows the user a buffer zone for plausible deniability in case of rejection (Murray, 1985).Example: CAN YOU HAND ME THAT ASHTRAY? * do you have the time? * you look bored * you look lost, are you looking for something? * did you see that fight outside * how does my hair look * * where is the nearest restroom located? * SITUATIONAL OPENER * MALL: Wow, that fountain is really interesting eh... *...wow, that is really interesting * MALL: excuse me I'm looking to improve my fashion sense, can you recommend and stores for a good jacket?INDIRECT OPENER PROS/CONSPROS: Natural and gives you a reason to talk to the girl beyond wanting sex.CONS: Doesnt give you alot to work with. You will have to move on to another conversation topic or do something after its done pretty quicklyCUTE/FLIPPANT: Cute or flippant pick-up lines are creative ways to pick someone up. These pick-up lines can range from funny to rude. Much like the innocuous approach, this type helps deflect rejection as well. The user can protect him or herself by claiming that the pick-up line was only a joke (Murray, 1985).Example: YOU MUST BE A PARKING TICKET...BECAUSE YOU'VE GOT FINE WRITTEN ALL OVER YOU.FINDINGS: When men approach women, direct and innocuous approaches work to stimulate conversation 50-70% of the time. Cute or flippant works only 20% of the time. When women approach men, all three types are 90-100% successful at stimulating conversation. The innocuous approach is used the most frequently, with direct and cute/flippant used less frequently (Cunningham, 1989). * are you from Toronto? coz I wanna get to know you Pronto! * are you from Buffalo?coz I'm BUFF and I wanted to say HULLO * are you from Helsinki coz your' HELLA STINKY (aha don't use this..insulting) * do you want to dance with the big bad wolf ? No? It's okay the other 2 pigs said no too, (don't use too insulting)http://collegeflirt.net/essentials-6-types-of-openers-and-opening-groups/IDIOT CLUB OPENER(ADAPTED FROM THE SITE ABOVE)BASIC GUY OPENEREXAMPLE : Hi your really pretty can I buy you a drinkCONS: You look like a faggot and end up spending money.PRO: Girl will usually accept because free shit is coolOPINION OPENERS(INDIRECT)ASK SOMETHING THAT CANNOT BE ANSWERED WITH A YES/NOExamples1.Hey, my friend says girls lie more, but I actually think guys lie a shit ton more. What do you think2.Hey my friend is out of the country and forgot to order his gf a present for her bday tommorow. He wired me 250 bucks to go buy her something today. WTF should i get herPROS: Very low risk and gets a conversation flowing about something somewhat interesting. These are great ice breakers and can get you to be the center of attention for an entire groupCONS: Can be very weird if you do not deliver it well. If you using memorized ones you are going to get killed in college because everyone will start to notice you using the same conversation on every girl you talk to.GROUP OPENERS.2 GIRLS SETWin over friend while working on the initial girl. If you don't the lonely friend will usually steal their friend backGIRL AND GUY SETIgnore the guy. The end.
